Abstract

This article is based on research motivated by the low level of social development among early childhood children and the limited variety of play activities that provide optimal developmental stimulation. As a result, children’s social development had on progressed optimally. To address this issue, the traditional game of Sepak Tekong was implemented as an engaging and enjoyable play activity that encourages children to interact more actively with their peers during the game. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Sepak Tekong game on the social development of early childhood children at TK Kemala Bhayangkari 1 Padang City. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental research design. Two groups participated in the study: an experimental group that received the treatment and a control group that did not receive the treatment for comparison purposes. The research sample consisted of 16 children from Class B2 as the experimental group and 16 children from Class B3 as the control group, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation. The data were analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and hypothesis tests. The findings showed that the mean pre-test score of the experimental group was 23.94, which increased to 41.88 on the post-test. The hypothesis test yielded a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.001, which was lower than 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Sepak Tekong game has a significant positive effect on the social development of early childhood children at TK Kemala Bhayangkari 1 Padang City
