Abstract

This research was motivated by the low learning activeness in mathematics among second-grade students at SD Negeri Kebonwaru, characterized by a lack of student participation in the learning process. This study aimed to determine the influence of the Snowball Throwing learning model on the mathematics learning activeness of second-grade students at SD Negeri Kebonwaru. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method. The research design used was the Nonequivalent Control Group Design, involving an experimental group and a control group. The research instruments consisted of questionnaires and student learning activeness observation sheets, which were developed based on learning activeness indicators. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive analysis and the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that the average learning activeness score of the experimental group increased from 3.21 in the pre-test to 3.68 in the post-test, categorized as highly active. Meanwhile, the control group experienced a decrease from 2.99 to 2.59. The Mann-Whitney test results on the post-test data yielded an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, meaning that H_0 was rejected and H_a was accepted. Therefore, there was a significant difference between the experimental group and the control group after the treatment. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the Snowball Throwing learning model significantly influences the mathematics learning activeness of second-grade students at SD Negeri Kebonwaru. This learning model can be used as an alternative instructional strategy capable of enhancing student activeness through questioning, discussing, and collaborating in the learning process.
