Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Education (PAI) teachers in developing students’ emotional intelligence at SMP Negeri 1 Jogoroto. The background of this research is based on the importance of emotional intelligence in supporting learning success and character development, especially in early adolescence where students tend to experience emotional instability. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consist of PAI teachers and students at SMP Negeri 1 Jogoroto. The results show that students’ emotional intelligence develops through five main aspects: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. The role of PAI teachers is highly significant, acting as educators, mentors, role models, conflict mediators, and motivators. Teachers also integrate religious values into learning and implement habituation programs such as congregational prayers, Qur’an literacy, and social activities. The approach used is persuasive and dialogic, enabling students to manage their emotions gradually. Therefore, PAI teachers play an important role in shaping a balance between students’ intellectual and emotional intelligence.
