Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the implementation of a traditional mini-market based deep learning approach in science instruction regarding measurement topics at SMP Negeri 4 Tebing Tinggi. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Research subjects consisted of a science teacher and students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, with validity ensured through source and technique triangulation. The results revealed three key findings: (1) the deep learning approach was optimally implemented through contextual learning involving hands-on measurement activities; (2) utilizing a traditional mini-market as a learning resource provided an authentic experience that reinforced the understanding of measurement concepts and unit conversions; and (3) the approach positively impacted students' measurement skills, numeracy literacy, active engagement, and ability to connect science concepts to daily life. Thus, the traditional mini-market-based deep learning approach serves as an effective, contextual, and meaningful alternative for science instruction, supporting students' mastery of concepts alongside their practical application skills. Keywords: deep learning; science instruction; traditional mini-market; measurement; numeracy literacy   Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis implementasi pendekatan deep learning berbasis mini market tradisional dalam pembelajaran IPA pada materi pengukuran di SMP Negeri 4 Tebing Tinggi. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus. Subjek penelitian terdiri atas guru IPA dan siswa yang dipilih secara purposive. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan kesimpulan dengan menjamin keabsahan melalui triangulasi sumber dan teknik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan tiga temuan utama, yaitu: (1) pendekatan deep learning telah diimplementasikan secara optimal melalui pembelajaran kontekstual yang melibatkan aktivitas pengukuran secara langsung; (2) pemanfaatan mini market tradisional sebagai sumber belajar memberikan pengalaman autentik yang memperkuat pemahaman konsep pengukuran dan konversi satuan; dan (3) pendekatan tersebut berdampak positif terhadap keterampilan pengukuran, literasi numerasi, keaktifan, serta kemampuan siswa menghubungkan konsep IPA dengan kehidupan sehari-hari. Dengan demikian, pendekatan deep learning berbasis mini market tradisional menjadi alternatif pembelajaran IPA yang efektif, kontekstual, dan bermakna dalam mendukung penguasaan konsep sekaligus keterampilan aplikatif siswa.
