Abstract

The importance of environmental awareness is demonstrated by the government through environmental care initiatives and by making environmental care a key element of nationalistic values. Therefore, fostering an environmental care character is essential to be cultivated from an early age and developed effectively. Character education in educational settings can be implemented through the use of multimedia learning that integrates character education. Several studies indicate that the use of ICT (information and communication technology) multimedia can enhance students' character. However, access to ICT multimedia for strengthening environmental care character remains difficult to obtain. Based on this, the purpose of this research is to develop an ICT-based Science Learning Multimedia (that is valid, practical, and effective) to enhance the environmental care character of junior high school students as an effort to improve the quality of the environment. The research method used is a development method, adopting the four-D model, which consists of the following stages: 1) Definition: identifying and formulating learning requirements, determining objectives, and addressing issues in existing media or teaching tools; 2) Design: designing the multimedia; 3) Development: conducting limited and extensive trials; and 4) Dissemination: distributing the product. This research resulted in a multimedia learning application that is considered valid based on expert assessments, and practical and effective in improving the environmental care character of junior high school students. The enhanced environmental care character includes increased student involvement in maintaining cleanliness, energy conservation, waste sorting and processing, as well as participation in environmental preservation activities

Abstract

The increasing demand for inclusive and student-centered science learning highlights the need for instructional materials that can accommodate diverse student characteristics, learning preferences, and levels of understanding. However, many existing learning resources have not yet optimally supported differentiated learning or effectively fostered students’ science literacy. In response to this gap, this study develops a science literacy-based e-book designed through a differentiated learning approach to expand students' access, participation, and engagement in science learning. The research employs the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) development model, encompassing five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Validation was conducted by three experts assessing content, differentiation, design, and language aspects. The results showed an average score of 4.93 (98.50%), categorized as very valid. Specifically, the differentiation aspect scored 4.83 (96.67%), design and media 5.00 (100%), and language and presentation 4.93 (98.67%), indicating high technical and pedagogical feasibility. Initial student responses (n = 17) yielded an average score of 4.89, while classroom implementation testing (n = 27) showed a 91.5% implementation rate with an average post-learning response of 4.84 and a deviation ≤0.08, reflecting high consistency and satisfaction. These findings indicate that the developed e-book is both valid and practical for supporting differentiated and student-centered science learning. Furthermore, the integration of interactive multimedia elements and differentiation strategies enhances engagement, inclusivity, and science literacy development. This study also provides a foundation for the future development of adaptive digital learning resources

Abstract

Science instruction on the topics of global warming and environmental health still faces challenges because the learning process tends to be dominated by conventional methods that are less effective at boosting learning motivation and helping students understand abstract concepts. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the effectiveness of implementing android-based learning media developed using Smart Apps Creator (SAC) on the learning motivation and academic achievement of junior high school students. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest design involving an experimental class and a replication class. The study was conducted at SMP Negeri 3 Satap Tabongo with 15 students in the experimental class and at SMP Negeri 3 Kwandang with 23 students in the replication class. Data were collected using pretest and posttest achievement tests, as well as a learning motivation questionnaire using a Likert scale. The results showed that students’ learning motivation was in the “very good” category, with an average percentage of 88.2% in the experimental class and 87.8% in the replication class. Students’ learning outcomes also improved, as indicated by the average pretest and posttest scores. In the experimental class, the average pretest score of 45.73 increased to 84.00 with an N-gain of 0.713 (high category), while in the replication class, the average pretest score of 43.65 increased to 83.13 with an N-gain of 0.706 (high category). The results of the study indicate that android-based learning media developed using SAC is effective in enhancing students’ learning motivation and learning outcomes on the topics of global warming and environmental health. Thus, this medium can serve as an innovative and interactive learning alternative to support science education at the junior high school level
