Abstract

Dental and oral health is a reflection of overall body health. Oral health is crucial for overall health and well-being and significantly impacts quality of life, including speech, chewing, and self-confidence. Efforts to prevent dental and oral diseases are carried out through school dental health programs (UKGS) and community dental health programs (UKGM), which provide promotive and preventive services. Behavioral change can be achieved through dental health education using various methods and media that are fun, entertaining, and engaging, and can help and accelerate children's understanding of the material. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The aim was to determine the effectiveness of Truth or Dare dental health education on Oral Hygiene (OHI-S) among students at SDN 101791 Patumbak Kampung. The study population consisted of 464 students, with 34 students selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection was conducted by examining dental and oral hygiene before and after a Truth or Dare dental health education session. The results showed that the average OHI-S score before the education session was 2.78, and after the education session, the average OHI-S score was 1.07. A statistical test obtained a p-value of 0.0001, indicating a significant difference between the OHI-S scores before and after the intervention. The study concluded that the Truth or Dare dental health education session was effective in improving dental and oral hygiene among students at Patumbak Kampung 101791 Public Elementary School. Students are expected to maintain dental and oral hygiene by brushing their teeth twice a day.
