Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and social media has transformed how Generation Alpha children acquire information, including religious knowledge, shifting them away from exclusive reliance on teachers and parents toward platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, search engines, and AI-based applications. Purpose: This study aims to develop a conceptual framework of Digital Religious Literacy as a new paradigm for reconstructing Islamic education in elementary schools, addressing the gap between children's digital religious experiences and the largely normative, teacher-centered design of existing curricula. Design/methods/approach: This conceptual paper employs an integrative literature review of national and international sources on digital literacy, religious literacy, Islamic education, artificial intelligence, and the characteristics of Generation Alpha, analyzed through conceptual synthesis to identify inter-conceptual relationships and construct a comprehensive model. Results: The synthesis produces the Digital Religious Literacy Framework (DRLF), comprising five interrelated dimensions: Islamic Digital Ethics, Critical Religious Thinking, AI-Assisted Religious Learning, Responsible Digital Citizenship, and Reflective Islamic Character. Conclusion: The DRLF offers a theoretical foundation for curriculum development, instructional models, and Islamic education policy that remains adaptive to digital technology while upholding Islamic values. This paper is categorized as a conceptual paper.
