Abstract

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is a coconut-based product with high economic value and is widely used in the health, food, and cosmetic industries. West Sumatra Province has strong potential for the development of VCO small and medium enterprises (SMEs) due to the abundant availability of coconut raw materials. This study aims to analyze the potential implementation of a green business model in VCO SMEs in West Sumatra and to identify the opportunities and challenges associated with its implementation. The research employed a quantitative approach using descriptive analysis, the Green Business Model Canvas, SWOT analysis, Likert scale analysis, gap analysis . Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires involving 25 respondents, consisting of 20 VCO SME owners and 5 external respondents. The results indicate that VCO SMEs have the potential to implement a green business model through the use of natural raw materials, local resources, and the diversification of derivative products. However, its implementation still faces challenges, including limited capital, technology, human resource capacity, and market access. The growing demand for natural and environmentally friendly products, supported by product innovation, creates opportunities for developing more sustainable and competitive SMEs.
