Abstract

Bronchial asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways that often causes dyspnea. Mint leaf aromatherapy, which contains menthol, is known to help relieve respiratory discomfort. This case study aimed to describe the implementation of mint leaf aromatherapy in reducing dyspnea among patients with bronchial asthma at RSAU dr. Esnawan Antariksa. The method used was a descriptive case study involving two patients with bronchial asthma who experienced dyspnea. The intervention consisted of inhalation of mint leaf aromatherapy using 5 drops of essential oil mixed with 200 ml of warm water through a diffuser for 15 minutes, three times a day for three days. Measurements were conducted using the Borg Dyspnea Scale, observation sheets, and a pulse oximeter. The results showed a reduction in dyspnea levels in both patients, with Borg Dyspnea Scale scores decreasing from 5 to 0 in Subject 1 and from 4 to 0 in Subject 2. Mint leaf aromatherapy has the potential to be used as a complementary therapy to help reduce dyspnea in patients with bronchial asthma.
