Abstract

Preoperative anxiety is a common psychological problem among pediatric patients and may affect their readiness for anesthesia and surgery. Virtual Reality Hypnotherapy (VRH) is a non-pharmacological intervention that combines immersive audiovisual experiences with relaxation suggestions to help reduce anxiety. This Community Service Program aimed to implement VRH to reduce anxiety levels among pediatric patients undergoing surgery at RSD Gunung Jati Cirebon. The program was conducted from December 1 to 10, 2025, involving 27 pediatric patients aged 7–18 years scheduled for elective surgery. Anxiety levels were assessed before and after the intervention using the Faces Anxiety Scale (FAS). The VRH intervention consisted of 360° visual content, natural scenery, relaxing music, soft sounds, and suggestive narration. Most participants were aged 15–18 years (48.1%), male (66.7%), and had no previous surgical experience (63.0%). Before the intervention, 16 participants (59.3%) had moderate anxiety, 9 (33.3%) had severe anxiety, and 2 (7.4%) were very anxious. After the intervention, 18 participants (66.7%) were categorized as not anxious and 9 (33.3%) as slightly anxious. The implementation of VRH was associated with a reduction in preoperative anxiety among pediatric patients and may be considered a supportive non-pharmacological intervention in pediatric perioperative care.
