Abstract

The growth of "spare change" donation programs in modern retail has turned shopping into a vehicle for public philanthropy, making it important to examine the factors influencing consumer decisions to donate. This study aims to analyze the influence of religiosity, trust, and lifestyle on the decision of modern retail consumers in Surabaya to donate their spare change. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing primary data collected via Google Forms questionnaires from 110 Muslim consumers selected through purposive sampling. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression with the aid of SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions) software, version 22. The results indicate that trust has a positive and significant effect on the donation decision (significance value of 0.006), followed by lifestyle (significance value of 0.000), whereas religiosity does not have a significant effect (significance value of 0.514). These findings suggest that, in the context of spare change donations at modern retail outlets, consumer decisions are driven more by trust or lifestyle than by religiosity; this may be attributed to the fact that the majority of respondents were aged 17–24 a stage of early adulthood characterized by emotional instability and susceptibility to rapid change, factors that often influence an individual's level of religiosity as they mature.
