Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of video tutorial media on basketball free throw ability among eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Purwakarta. The research method used was quantitative with a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The research sample consisted of 62 students divided into experimental and control groups using purposive sampling technique. The experimental group received learning using video tutorial media, while the control group received conventional learning. The research instrument was a free throw technique performance test assessed based on preparation, execution, and follow-through aspects using a 1–4 scale rubric. Treatment was given over 8 meetings with a frequency of twice per week. Data analysis used descriptive statistics, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene homogeneity test, and Paired Sample t-Test. The results showed that the average score of the experimental group increased from 6.52 to 9.48, while the control group increased from 6.94 to 9.42. The Paired Sample t-Test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 in both groups, with the average improvement of the experimental group at 2.968 being greater than the control group at 2.484. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of video tutorial media has a significant effect on improving students' basketball free throw ability and is more effective than conventional learning.
