Abstract

This research aims to know the development result score of students using module which content local wisdom at SMKN 1 Cinangka. Teaching material in this research is module. This research method that uses is R&D method. This research uses 10 students with small group trial and 30 students with limited field trial. The researcher used technique of collecting data, such as; observation, interview, questionnaire and test. The result indicated that: after getting learning by using local wisdom module, there is any increasing for the score. The average score for experiment class is 54 become 81.5, and for control class is 48.5 and 63.5. It means that learning using local wisdom module got increasing score for experimental and control class.

Abstract

Abstract. The objectives of this research is to figure out whether or not the implementation of SQ3R technique can improve reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of Mts Al-Khairiyah in academic year 2018/2019. Therefore, to achieve the objective, the writer conducted a action research. This research was conducted in two cycles where each cycle had 2 sessions. The data were analyzed by comparing the result of pre-test and post-test. The result post- test showed the significant improvement. This research furthermore showed that most of the subjects gave positive response that SQ3R technique was successfully applied in improving the subjects’ reading comprehension. In conclusion, the present classroom action study proved that SQ3R technique could improve reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of Mts Al-Khairiyah in academic year 2018/2019.

Abstract

The study is aimed to explain the using of Inquiry-based learning for teaching reading at English Department UNBAJA 2016/2017. The researcher got the data of this research from events, informant and document. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The method of collecting data is observation, interview and document. The technique of data analysis is data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing/verification. The result of the analysis show that: 1) For learning objective there are two kinds namely: general learning objective and specific learning objective. 2) In the classroom procedure, the researcher found that the lecture used Inquiry based learning in teaching Reading at Literal Reading Class. Any three steps, there are: Exploration, Elaboration and Confirmation. 3) The classroom technique that the researcher found during the observation such as oral repetition, identifying key-words, answering the questions, free writing, problem solving and reading passage. 4) The researcher found four kinds of Instructional materials during the observations, there are (a) textbook, (b) picture in the monitor, (c) slide of power point, and (d) video. 5) There are two of lectures’ role that the researcher found in the English Department UNBAJA during the observation. 6) media that used in English Department UNBAJA, which is used in teaching learning process at Literal Reading class such as: (a) picture, (b) Board, (c) Laptop, and (d) tape recorder. And 7) Type of Assessment tools used are daily test, midterm examination and final examination. The results showed thatstudents who were instructed through Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) were achieved higher score than the ones which wereinstructed through the traditional method.

Abstract

In constructing correct passive voice, students need to master grammar. In this case, learning passive voice always creates errors. The objectives of this research were to know the types of Passive Voice that taught in SMK Pasundan 1 kotaSerang ateleventhgrade and to find out the causes of errors made by the student’s Writing Passive Voice especially Simple Past Tense. The subjects of this research consisted of 15 students at eleventh grades of SMK Pasundan 1 Kota Serang. The method of this research was Qualitative by using Case Study Method. To collect the data the writer used test as an instrument, while the writer was analyzed errors of the students it is based on the Surface Strategy Taxonomy. The results of this research are Misformation errors consisted 41 errors or 58,57 %, followed by Omission errors consisted 23 errors or 32,58 %, Misordering error consisted 5 errors or 7,14 % and Addition error consisted 1 errors or 1,43 %. Based on the result of the research the dominant errors was Misformation consisted 58,57%. The conclusion of this research was this research related to a cause error made by the students and one of the cause was less understanding about grammar especially Simple Past Tense.

Abstract

This research uses of Listen Read Discuss strategy in reading comprehension. This research was conducted based on formulation of the problem. The objective of this research was to know whether there was any significant effect of using Listen Read Discuss Strategy (LRD) strategy toward reading students’ comprehension at the eighth grade of MTS Nurul Falah Kresek. The writer used quantitative research by using quasi experimental research method. Class VIII B as the experimental group which was consisted of 20 students, class VIII A as the control group which was consisted of 20 students. The data were collected by reading test. It can be seen from the result pretest and post-test in experimental and control class. The writer analyzed by using t-test. The result of this research revealed that the post-test scores were better than the pre-test scores. It can be seen from the result of t-test. The criteria of two tailed test with significance level (α = 0.05 ) was T table ≤ T test ≤ T table: H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. The result of computation got T test = 3.226 and T table = 0.444. It means 0.444 < 3.226 > 0.444. H0 is rejected and Ha was accepted. Based on the conclusion above, it can be concluded that reading comprehension through LRD strategy was more effective for increasing reading comprehension. There is the differences of the teaching learning process between two classes. In the other words, students’ reading comprehension that were taught through LRD strategy was higher than those who were not through LRD strategy.

Abstract

This study is focused on analysis of the politeness expressed by the main characters and supporting characters in “Beauty and the Beast” Movie. The objective of this study are to know the politeness expressed by the main characters; Beauty (Belle) and the Beast (Prince) and to know the politeness expressed by the supporting characters in “Beauty and the Beast” movie. This Study is qualitative research that used content analysis method. Technique of data analysis in this study is using descriptive qualitative. The result of analysis are the sum of expression of politeness in saying thank you are 8 expressions, in saying hello are 7 expression, in answer the saying hello are 2 expressions, in use ‘I’m sorry’ are 5 expression and of how to sound more polite are 5 expressions. The sum of all expression of politeness that expressed by the characters in “Beauty and the Beast” movie are 27 expressions. Based on the discussion of the result of analysis, It can be concluded that expression of politeness is important in communication and it usually use in conversation when people in saying hello or greeting, when people answer the saying hello or greeting from others, when people ask with the sound more polite, and the last when people saying use ‘I’m sorry’ to refused and ignore something and ask to forgiven by other people. This study can be applied to conduct the learning material in teaching about the English expression in conversation, especially expression of politeness.

Abstract

This research is an ethnography study which explores the using of registers in technology of information context applied by computer community. The research examines the textual patterning of the registers applied by computer community, interpersonal and intrapersonal features as well as considers possible contextual factors which contribute to the formation of cultural theme. The research thus aims to provide both textual and contextual of the register under investigation in language and culture. For its framework for analysis, the research draws on domain analysis, taxonomic analysis, componential analysis, and the role of both textual and contextual pattern in forming cultural theme. The research reveals that computer community uses a proverb ‘Practice Makes Perfect’ as their cultural theme to understand the functional interpretation of each register in technology of information context. They seem to distance themselves from outside sources such as bilingual dictionary for comprehending the textual meaning and computer dictionary for comprehending the contextual meaning. They integrate and manipulate outside sources in various ways to establish and provide supportive for the views they express. The research concludes that cultural theme of computer community is a proverb ‘Practice Makes Perfect’. They believe that they can possess the skills by keeping practice. It is thus recommended that further study in this field should be able to investigate the need analysis of English for specific purpose in order to improve the comprehension of the register.

Abstract

The study used to be aimed at describing: (1) the goal needs of the students in learning English of Banten Jaya University, (2) the mastering needs of the students in mastering English of Banten Jaya University, and (3) the improvement at the teaching English syllabus. The topics of this study had been 152 students of the semester 1 of various departments of Banten Jaya University in the educational yr 2019/2020. The study consisted of data collection, data identification, data quantification, data description, and syllabus development. The English syllabus has been developed primarily based on the desires analysis data. The research instruments have been questionnaires and interview guides. The outcomes of the study are as follow. The goal needs of the students of Banten Jaya University in learning English are to enhance their English skills; the students’ proficiency is in the beginner level; studying English is useful for their subsequent career; the most popular subject matter; the center is photo illustration; the studying pastime is talking then reading comprehension; the trainer function is as a comments giver; the learners position is as energetic learners; and the setting is group work.

Abstract

The research is content analysis which explores the using of translation equivalences applied in Faculty of Computer Science. Considering that the Faculty of Computer Science indirectly and unconsciously often carry out the process of translation in daily activities in the programming language used. The research thus aims to provide how is translation equivalence and what is the dominant translation equivalence used in translation of abstract internship report in Faculty of Computer Science 7th semester in Banten Jaya University 2019. The data conducted from 3 sections of collecting data which taken randomly from 20 abstract translations of internship report, divided into 10 abstracts from Information System Program and 10 abstracts from Information Engineering Program. The Mona Baker’s theories applied in the order to identified and classify the translation equivalences. Furthermore, Miles and Huberman method also used to analyzed the abstract of internship report to find out the first question. In the other hand a formula by Butler used to find out the second question. As the result of this research, the most dominant translation equivalence used is Above Word Level Equivalence with 35 cases (28.69%), which followed by Pragmatic Equivalence with 30 cases (24.59%), Word Level Equivalence with 26 cases (21.31%), Grammatical Equivalence with 16 cases (13.11%), and Textual Equivalence with 15 cases (12.30%).The research concludes that the translation equivalence in translations process depend on the translator point of view.

Abstract

Learning abilities so that they can stimulate or encourage the learning process to be more interesting. flashcard is a media that helps in remembering and reviewing learning materials such as: definitions or terms, symbols, spelling of foreign languages, formulas, and others. The purpose of this Community Service activity is to introduce the use of Flashcards in learning English specifically to improve the understanding of the English vocabulary of students and students at SATAP SMPN 2 Kepuh, Kec. Pincincang. Community service activities by providing socialization of the application of flashcard media in learning English in order to improve the students' cognitive abilities and stimulate students to think creatively have been carried out properly. With good cooperation between the implementation team and partners, this community service activity will run as expected. With this service, teachers are expected to be able to implement flashcard media in English, as well as students can understand so that they can improve their cognitive abilities in learning English.
