Abstract

The development of urban green open spaces requires reliable drainage infrastructure to ensure environmental sustainability and functional performance. The construction of a fountain pond park in the Digulis Monument area, Pontianak City, Indonesia, required an underground drainage system to convey excess water to the municipal drainage network without compromising the stability of Ahmad Yani Street, a national roadway with heavy traffic. Precast box culverts are widely used in urban drainage systems due to their structural efficiency and rapid installation. However, few studies have examined the long-term field performance of geotextile-protected culvert joints, particularly under soft-soil conditions. This study evaluates the technical performance of a precast reinforced concrete box culvert (1.5 m × 1.5 m) with 25 MPa concrete strength and D16–150 mm reinforcement used as the drainage conduit for the fountain pond system. The analysis includes a hydrological assessment, reinforced concrete structural evaluation, and a review of construction methods. Field observations conducted more than a decade after installation indicate that the system remains hydraulically functional and structurally stable. The results provide long-term empirical field evidence that geotextile protection at culvert joints can improve the stability of precast drainage systems constructed on soft soil.
