Abstract

This study examines the role of shadowing in improving interpreting performance through a library research approach. Shadowing, defined as the immediate repetition of spoken language, is widely recognized as a fundamental training technique in interpreting studies. By reviewing written sources, this research analyzes the theoretical foundations and practical applications of shadowing in interpreter training. The findings indicate that shadowing enhances key interpreting skills, particularly listening accuracy, speech coordination, and processing speed. It allows learners to develop the ability to follow continuous speech while maintaining fluency and proper pronunciation. These skills are essential for ensuring effective and accurate communication in interpreting contexts. Furthermore, shadowing helps interpreters become more familiar with different speech patterns, accents, and intonation, which are essential in real interpreting contexts. Shadowing also serves as a preparatory stage that strengthens cognitive readiness before engaging in more complex interpreting tasks. In conclusion, this study highlights that shadowing is an effective technique that supports the development of interpreting skills and can significantly contribute to improving interpreting service quality when systematically integrated into training programs.
