Abstract

Rural corn farmers often face three interconnected challenges: conventional financial management of harvest proceeds; reliance on middlemen who offer low prices and engage in practices involving delayed payments and potential fraud; and the failure to productively utilize harvest waste. This community service initiative aimed to enhance the economic value of a corn farmer's produce in Loderesan Village, Kedungwaru District, Tulungagung Regency, by strengthening financial management, utilizing waste, and implementing Sharia-compliant marketing principles. The activities were conducted in April 2026 using a participatory mentoring approach, covering the entire process from harvesting and husking (separating the corn husks) to identifying honest and trustworthy buyers. The mentoring results showed that the farmer became more disciplined in financial record-keeping; husks and cobs were channeled to neighboring livestock farmers, creating a mutually beneficial relationship; and a direct partnership was established with a layer hen farmer. The selling price of the corn rose from the Rp4,500–Rp5,000 range to Rp6,300 per kilogram; consequently, from the sale of 7 tons, the farmer gained an additional income of approximately Rp9.1–12.6 million per harvest. Sharia-compliant marketing—which emphasizes honesty, trustworthiness, and clear contractual agreements—proved effective in shortening the distribution chain while sustainably improving the farmer's welfare.
