Abstract

In Lampung province, the prevalence reaches 25% and Central Lampung Regency it exceeds 30% with an infant mortality rate of 15.17%. This condition contributes to an increased risk of low APGAR scores in new-borns. This study aimed to determine the relationship between maternal hemoglobin levels and new born Apgar scores at PKM Bangun Rejo, Central Lampung Regency, in 2025. This study employed a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 mothers in labor selected using total sampling. Data were collected using observation sheets and analysed with the Chi-Square test at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that most mothers had normal hemoglobin levels (non-anemic) 23 respondents (76.7%), while anemic mothers were 7 respondents (23.3%). New-born Apgar scores indicated that the majority were not asphyxiated 22 new-borns (73.3%), while asphyxia occurred in 8 new-borns (26.7%). Statistical analysis revealed p = 0.000 (p < 0.05) and OR = 63.0 (95% CI: 4.34–820.02), indicating a significant relationship between maternal hemoglobin levels and new born Apgar scores. It can be concluded that maternal anemia increases the risk of neonatal asphyxia. Routine hemoglobin checks,nutrition education, and adherence to iron supplementation are strongly recommended to prevent asphyxiain new-borns.
