Abstract

This study analyzes cultural manifestations in Leila S. Chudori's Laut Bercerita using Koentjaraningrat’s literary anthropology framework. A qualitative descriptive method with a literary anthropology approach was employed. Data, consisting of narrative units and dialogues, were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The results demonstrate three primary findings. First, the ideological system is manifested through resistance and human values acting as a counter-culture against authoritarianism. Second, the behavioral system materializes in domestic rituals and clandestine subcultures that maintain social cohesion. Third, the physical system (artifacts), represented by letters and banned books, transforms into a sacred medium preserving collective memory. In conclusion, Laut Bercerita functions as a fictional ethnography reconstructing historical trauma through cultural practices. This study implies the critical role of literature as a space for cultural transmission to combat historical amnesia regarding state violence.Keywords:, Literary anthropology, Koentjaraningrat, Laut Bercerita, subculture of resistance. domestic rituals.
