Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to examine the self-identity search of Raib, the main character in Bumi by Tere Liye, using a literary psychology approach. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. The data consist of narrative and dialogue excerpts from the novel that reflect inner conflict, identity crisis, and psychological development of the character. Data were collected through close reading and note-taking techniques, while data analysis was conducted through identification, classification, and interpretation based on concepts of literary psychology. The results indicate that Raib’s self-identity search occurs gradually, beginning with identity confusion and inner conflict, followed by self-acceptance, and culminating in the formation of an integrated identity. This process is influenced by personal experiences, internal and external conflicts, as well as moral values that shape the character’s psychological development. This study is expected to contribute to Indonesian literary studies, particularly research on novels using a literary psychology perspective.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the expressions of freedom and responsibility of female characters in the novel Paya Nie by Ida Fitri through a literary psychology approach with the existentialism perspective of Jean-Paul Sartre. The novel is analyzed to express women’s life experiences within social contexts such as poverty, social pressure, and conflicts in Acehnese society. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with thematic analysis techniques on data in the form of narration, dialogue, and monologue of female characters in the novel. The data were collected through intensive reading, note-taking, and classification of relevant excerpts based on the research focus. The results show that the expressions of freedom of female characters are manifested in two forms: freedom in speech and freedom in action. Freedom in speech is reflected in the characters’ courage to express opinions and make life choices, while freedom in action is demonstrated through their responses to the social situations they face. This study also finds expressions of responsibility shown by female characters in both speech and action, such as their concern for family and awareness in carrying out social roles. The findings indicate that the freedom of female characters in the novel Paya Nie is inseparable from the responsibilities they must bear as consequences of the life choices they make.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the novel Amba by Laksmi Pamuntjak using the Poststructuralism paradigm through Jacques Derrida’s strategy of Deconstruction. Laksmi Pamuntjak’s Amba is analyzed based on the dismantling of binary oppositions, the process of deferred meaning (différance), and the presence of the trace (trace). The research method employed is the qualitative descriptive method. This study utilizes stages of deconstructive analysis, including reconstruction, deconstruction, and reinscription. The analysis process was conducted by collecting data findings in the form of words, phrases, clauses, sentences, and paragraphs within the research object that indicate the instability of meaning. This study found various forms of deconstruction of historical narratives and identities within Laksmi Pamuntjak’s novel Amba. The dismantling of binary oppositions was found in the hierarchical shift between History and Fiction, where the text challenges the dominance of official history through personal narratives. Furthermore, the concept of différance is illustrated in the identity of the character Amba, which is fluid and consistently defers the finality of meaning. Meanwhile, the presence of the trace (trace) explains the remnants of wayang myths present to demonstrate the limitations of language in encapsulating the historical trauma of 1965. This study concludes that the novel Amba actively deconstructs itself by rejecting the authority of a single meaning.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of sustainable tourism elements in Dee Lestari's novel Akar using the Literary Tourism theory proposed by Prof. I Nyoman Darma Putra. This theoretical approach is used to examine the dialectical relationship between literary texts and destination image-building as well as tourism practices. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative with hermeneutic analysis techniques, focusing on the exploration of textual meaning, context, and potential extrinsic impacts. The results show that the novel Akar carefully represents two main destinations Java (Indonesia) and Brazil through the construction of lyrical natural imagery, profound ecological wisdom, and implicit criticism of environmental exploitation. This representation not only builds a strong destination image with an eco-spiritualism nuance but also has great potential to trigger sustainable literary tourism. However, the analysis also reveals a romanticization and commodification of local wisdom that needs to be read critically. These findings reinforce Darma Putra's thesis that contemporary literature functions as an effective soft power medium in promoting conservation values and shaping responsible tourist perceptions.
