Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease whose prevalence continues to rise in Indonesia, from 10.9% (Riskesdas 2018) to 11.7% (SKI 2023). Aerobic exercise is a non-pharmacological intervention that helps control blood glucose by enhancing GLUT-4 translocation and insulin sensitivity. This study aimed to determine the difference in random blood glucose levels before and after aerobic exercise among the community in Kacapiring. This quantitative study used a pre-experimental, One Group Pretest-Posttest design, involving 26 female respondents aged 30–65 years. The 60-minute session included 7 minutes warm-up, 45 minutes core movement, and 8 minutes cool-down. Random blood glucose was measured using Point of Care Testing (POCT) with an Autocheck 3 in 1 Multifunction Monitoring System before and after exercise. The Shapiro-Wilk test confirmed normal data distribution (p>0.05), so a Paired Sample t-test was applied. Results showed mean glucose levels decreased from 122.50 to 112.15 mg/dL (p=0.024). Aerobic exercise significantly reduces random blood glucose and is recommended as a non-pharmacological intervention for glucose control.

Abstract

Breakfast habits are one of the factors that can affect blood glucose levels. Among production workers, working hours starting at 7:00 a.m. make some workers unable to have breakfast, which may affect fasting blood glucose levels. This study aimed to analyze differences in fasting blood glucose levels measured using the Point of Care Testing (POCT) method based on breakfast habits among Cream Meses production workers at PT Multi Star Rukun Abadi. This study used an observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 32 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Breakfast habit data were collected through questionnaires, while fasting blood glucose levels were measured using capillary blood samples with the POCT method. Data were analyzed using the Independent Samples t-test. The results showed that the average blood glucose level among workers who regularly had breakfast was 90.17 mg/dL, while those who did not regularly have breakfast had an average level of 140.63 mg/dL. There was a significant difference in fasting blood glucose levels based on breakfast habits (p < 0.001). It can be concluded that workers who regularly had breakfast had lower fasting blood glucose levels than workers who did not regularly have breakfast.
