Abstract

Maternal mortality remains a major global and national health issue, largely caused by delays in recognizing pregnancy danger signs and delays in seeking care. Promotive and preventive efforts through pregnant women classes are effective strategies to improve maternal health literacy. This community service aimed to enhance pregnant women's knowledge of danger signs during pregnancy through the implementation of pregnant women classes at a community health post. The method used was a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The activity involved 20 pregnant women and included educational interventions using lectures, interactive discussions, demonstrations, and educational media such as leaflets and maternal health books. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores from a mean pretest score of 58.5 to 86.7 in the posttest. The greatest improvements were observed in understanding danger signs such as vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal pain, decreased fetal movement, and preeclampsia symptoms. The activity also enhanced active participation among participants. Conclusion: pregnant women classes are effective promotive and preventive tools to improve knowledge, supporting early detection of obstetric emergencies and prevention of pregnancy complications.
