Abstract

This study examines the financial problems experienced by Generation Z, by integrating the relationship between online impulse buying behaviour and m-banking usage behaviour as mediators of personal financial problems. The Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) method was used as the quantitative approach in this study. Data were collected via an online questionnaire, with a total of 207 respondents. The findings reveal a positive and significant influence of online impulse buying intention on personal financial problems and m-banking usage behaviour. Furthermore, m-banking usage behaviour also has a significant positive influence on personal financial problems. A mediation analysis of the relationship between the intention to make impulsive online purchases and personal financial problems revealed a significant positive effect of m-banking usage as a mediating variable. Based on these findings, individuals need to develop a better understanding of financial literacy and self-control to prevent a tendency towards impulsive purchasing. This study provides further insight into the need to improve understanding of digital consumer behaviour and personal finance. Practical implications suggest the need for stronger financial literacy and responsible digital spending habits among young consumers
