Abstract

This study aims to examine the symbolic meaning of the takir and the contents of the cok bakal in the customs of the community in Jatikurung Village, Mojokerto, through an ethnolinguistic perspective based on the Triangle of Meaning Theory by C. K. Ogden and I. A. Richards. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive, with data consisting of cultural lexicon such as takir, endog petek jowo, white rice, flowers, incense, empon-empon, and godong soroh. Data collection was conducted through telephone interviews with indigenous residents of Jatikurung Village using the listening and note-taking method. To process the data, the referential mapping method was employed to connect symbols, concepts of meaning, and related cultural references. The results of this research show that each part of the “cok” carries symbolic meanings related to the order of thought, the balance of life, and the relationship between humans, God, nature, and ancestors. This custom reflects the harmony between humans and nature and serves as a means of passing down the cultural values and worldview of Javanese society.
