Abstract

Fire incidents in office buildings can cause significant material losses and threaten human safety if they are not detected and handled promptly. Conventional fire detection systems generally rely on human monitoring and intervention, which may result in delays in responding to fire incidents. This study aims to implement and evaluate an Internet of Things (IoT)-based automatic fire extinguishing system with real-time Telegram notification at the Pendrikan Kidul Village Office. The proposed system employs an MQ-2 sensor to detect smoke and flammable gases and a flame sensor to detect the presence of fire. An ESP32 microcontroller serves as the main controller for processing sensor data, activating a buzzer as an early warning, controlling a relay and water pump for automatic fire extinguishing, and transmitting fire alerts through Telegram. The research method employed is Research and Development (R&D), involving prototype development and functional testing of the sensors, notification system, and automatic extinguishing mechanism. The test results indicate that the system is capable of detecting smoke and fire, providing an audible warning through the buzzer, transmitting real-time notifications via Telegram, and automatically activating the water pump when a flame is detected. The developed system can serve as an early mitigation measure to accelerate the response to potential fire incidents in office environments. The integration of fire detection, real-time notification, and automatic extinguishing within a single system represents the main advantage of the proposed IoT-based fire safety system.
