Abstract

Students' limited ability to understand mathematical concepts was evident in a learning environment that remained teacher-dominated, with student engagement in the learning process suboptimal. This study aimed to determine the difference in students' understanding of mathematical concepts before and after the implementation of the Discovery Learning model assisted by Papidibat media. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental design-specifically, the one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 28 fourth-grade students at SDN 3 Ketilengsingolelo. Data were collected through descriptive tests and documentation, then analysed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and the paired-sample t-test. The results showed that the students' average score increased from 58 on the pretest to 85 on the posttest, while the percentage of students achieving mastery rose from 7% to 89%. The paired-sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant difference in students' understanding of mathematical concepts before and after the implementation of the Discovery Learning model assisted by Papidibat media. It is concluded that students' understanding of mathematical concepts improved before and after the implementation of this model, as evidenced by improvements in their ability to understand concepts, present them in various forms of representation, and apply them to solve problems.
