Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of coastal community empowerment through human post disasterrecovery resource capacity building in achieving economic independence and poverty alleviation. Capacity building is carried out through training and mentoring oriented towards strengthening the skills, knowledge, and abilities of the community in managing and utilizing the potential of marine resources. This potential is directed towards sustainable management and processing into value-added products so as to increase the competitiveness and income of coastal communities. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research analysis refers to the empowerment theory proposed by Robert Chambers, which emphasizes the principles of people-centered, participatory, empowerment, and sustainable. The results show that effective development must place the community as the main subject, with active participation in every stage of the program. In addition, program sustainability is an important factor so that the empowerment process can create sustainable economic independence.
