Abstract

Dental and oral health maintenance behavior is one of the factors in the occurrence of periodontal disease in people with mellitus diabetes. This is because diabetes mellitus sufferers have the habit of rarely cleaning their oral cavity, such as brushing their teeth twice a day and cleaning tartar. They prefer other alternatives to clean their teeth and mouth, such as gargling with mouthwash to avoid inflammation or bleeding of the gums. For this reason, research was conducted to determine the relationship between dental and oral health maintenance behavior among people suffering from diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease at the Ulee Kareng Community Health Center. This type of research is cross sectional. This research was carried out for 2 weeks with a population of all patients who visited and suffered from diabetes mellitus. The sample consisted of 30 people and used the accidental sampling method. Data collection was obtained using observation sheets and filling out questionnaires. The analysis used is the Chi-Square test statistical analysis. Results: There is no significant relationship between the oral health maintenance behavior of people with diabetes mellitus and periodontal disease (Sig/Pvalue=1.000). Conclusion: There is no relationship between dental and oral health maintenance behavior in people with diabetes and periodontal disease mellitus.
