Abstract

Based on Riskesdas in 2013 showed that as many as 103,860 households or 35.2% of the 249,959 households in Indonesia stored medicines for self-medication. Medicines that are stored for too long, apart from causing physical damage to the preparation, also cause the medicine to reach its expiration date. These expired medicines must be managed well because they have a direct impact on individual health and medicines that are thrown away carelessly can become pollutants for the environment. This research aims to find out whether giving booklet media has an impact on people's knowledge about the management of drug waste in households. This research uses an experimental method with a group Pre-test and Post-test design without comparison (control). The population of this research is the community in Karangayu, Salamanmloyo, and Tambakharjo sub-districts. The sample used in this research based on the Slovin formula was 400 respondents. Data was taken using a validated questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The research results showed that the level of public knowledge in the West Semarang Region regarding drug waste management in the Pre-test and Post-test, namely those with high knowledge, was 107 (26.75%) and increased by 345 (86.3%). Next, it was tested using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, and the results showed that there was a significant increase in knowledge (p=0.000). Booklet media affects increasing public knowledge regarding household drug waste management in West Semarang District.
