Abstract

Dabong Village, located in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, is a coastal area with a relatively natural mangrove ecosystem that supports malacofaunal diversity, particularly gastropods. Gastropods in mangrove ecosystems are often used to assess the environmental health status of coastal areas due to their sensitivity to habitat changes. This study aimed to examine the characteristics and distribution of Optediceros breviculum as a bioindicator in the mangrove area of Dabong Village. Sampling was conducted exploratively at three stations within the mangrove area, followed by species identification and observation of community structure based on morphological characteristics with the assistance of online data. The results showed that O. breviculum was the species with the highest dominance and the widest distribution across all research stations, reinforcing its role as an indicator of a well-preserved mangrove ecosystem.
