Abstract

Abstract. Candlenut oil and ginseng extract are natural ingredients containing bioactive compounds beneficial for health and cosmetic applications. This study aims to formulate a combination emulsion of candlenut oil (Aleurites moluccana (L.) Willd.) and ginseng extract (Panax quinquefolius), evaluate its physical properties, and test its antioxidant activity using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. Emulsion formulas were developed using different concentrations of Tween 80 and Span 80 as emulsifiers. Characterization of candlenut oil was analyzed using GC-MS, while ginseng extract was evaluated for organoleptic properties and pH. The preparations were evaluated for organoleptic traits, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, specific gravity, and antioxidant activity. Formula 3 demonstrated the best physical characteristics, exhibiting a milky white appearance, distinctive aroma, good homogeneity, a pH of 4.55, viscosity of 110.0 ± 1.0 cPs, and weight uniformity meeting pharmacological standards. The antioxidant test revealed strong activity with an IC50 value of 65.45 ppm and a maximum inhibition of 73.75% at 100 ppm. In conclusion, the combination emulsion of candlenut oil and ginseng extract possesses favorable physical stability and potent antioxidant capabilities. Abstrak. Minyak kemiri dan ekstrak ginseng merupakan dua bahan alami yang mengandung senyawa bioaktif berkhasiat untuk perawatan kesehatan dan kosmetik. Penelitian ini bertujuan memformulasikan sediaan emulsi kombinasi minyak kemiri (Aleurites moluccana (L.) Willd.) dan ekstrak ginseng (Panax quinquefolius), mengevaluasi sifat fisik sediaan, serta menguji aktivitas antioksidannya dengan metode 2,2-difenil-1-pikrilhidrazil (DPPH). Formula emulsi dibuat menggunakan variasi emulgator Tween 80 dan Span 80. Karakterisasi minyak kemiri dianalisis dengan GC-MS, sedangkan ekstrak ginseng dievaluasi organoleptis dan pH-nya. Evaluasi emulsi meliputi organoleptis, homogenitas, pH, viskositas, bobot jenis, dan aktivitas antioksidan. Formula 3 merupakan formula terbaik dengan penampilan organoleptik berupa warna putih susu, aroma khas, homogenitas baik, pH 4,55, viskositas 110,0 ± 1,0 cPs, serta keseragaman bobot yang sesuai standar farmasetika. Hasil uji antioksidan menunjukkan bahwa emulsi kombinasi memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang kuat dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 65,45 ppm dan persentase inhibisi mencapai 73,75% pada konsentrasi 100 ppm. Kombinasi minyak kemiri dan ekstrak ginseng dapat diformulasikan menjadi sediaan emulsi yang stabil dan berpotensi sebagai antioksidan.
