Abstract

Danger signs in pregnancy are conditions that can threaten the safety of both mother and fetus if not recognized and managed appropriately. Limited knowledge and understanding among pregnant women regarding these danger signs remain a contributing factor to pregnancy complications. This study aimed to explore the experiences of pregnant women in recognizing danger signs of pregnancy at the Independent Midwifery Practice Clinic of Ida FA, Subang, covering knowledge, sources of information, perception, and response. A qualitative descriptive design was used. Informants were selected through purposive sampling among pregnant women attending antenatal care (ANC) at the clinic, with the final number of informants determined by data saturation [insert final number]. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, recorded, transcribed, and analyzed using the interactive Miles and Huberman model. Five main themes emerged: (1) knowledge of danger signs, (2) experiences of pregnancy complaints, (3) sources of information, (4) responses toward danger signs, and (5) barriers to recognition. Most informants recognized common danger signs such as bleeding and severe abdominal pain, although their understanding remained limited; health workers were the most trusted source of information; and responses varied from seeking immediate care to delaying treatment. The study concludes that pregnant women's knowledge and responses toward danger signs remain variable and are influenced by prior pregnancy experience, sources of information, and the quality of health education received. More contextual and sustained health education from midwives and nurses is needed to improve pregnant women's preparedness for maternal emergencies.

Abstract

Environmental factors play a significant role in determining community-based disease incidence, particularly in densely populated areas. This study aims to analyze environmental factors as determinants of disease occurrence in Baleendah Subdistrict, Bandung Regency. A quantitative study with a cross- sectional design was conducted involving 250 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected through environmental observation, structured questionnaires, and basic health assessments. The independent variables included water quality, air quality, waste management, and sanitation, while the dependent variable was the incidence of community-based diseases. Data were analyzed using logistic regression. The results showed that poor water quality (OR=2.6), inadequate waste management (OR=2.9), and poor sanitation (OR=3.2) were significantly associated with increased disease incidence (p<0.05). This study concludes that environmental factors are strong determinants of community- based diseases. Strengthening environmental health interventions is essential to reduce disease risk in the community.
