Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnant women is a health issue that can increase the risk of complications for both mother and fetus. One preventive measure is routine consumption of iron (Fe) tablets. However, adherence remains a challenge, contributing to continued cases of anemia. Research Objective: To determine the relationship between adherence to iron tablet consumption and the incidence of anemia among pregnant women at Grogol Community Health Center, Sukoharjo Regency. Research Methodology: This study used an observational analytic quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 104 pregnant women selected through total sampling. Adherence to iron tablet consumption was assessed using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS), while anemia was determined based on hemoglobin (Hb) levels. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Research Results: Of the 104 respondents, 64 (61.5%) were adherent to iron tablet consumption, while 40 (38.5%) were non-adherent. Anemia was found in 78 respondents (75.0%). Anemia occurred more frequently among pregnant women who were non-adherent than among those who were adherent. The Chi-square test showed a significant relationship between adherence to iron tablet consumption and anemia (p = 0.005). Conclusion: Adherence to iron tablet consumption is significantly associated with anemia among pregnant women at Grogol Community Health Center. These findings highlight the importance of improving education and monitoring of adherence to iron tablet consumption during pregnancy.
