Abstract

Abstract   The aging process in the elderly affects physical changes with the emergence of degenerative diseases, namely hypertension which is often found in complaints of old age. Efforts that can be made to improve blood pressure are one of the complementary therapies using the Swedish massage technique. This study aims to see the effect of Swedish massage therapy on blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension. The design of this study was a one group pre test post design with a total sample of 21 hypertensive elderly respondents. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling and analyzed using paired sample t-test. Based on the results of statistical tests obtained p = 0.001 on the systolic blood pressure variable and the diastolic blood pressure variable p = 0.004. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the results of systolic blood pressure before and after the Swedish massage, but statistically the diastolic blood pressure does not show a significant difference. Research related to Swedish massage in general has an effect on improving blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension. The effect of Swedish massage has an influence on smooth blood circulation, stimulates parasympathetic activity and increases the release of endorphins so that this process is useful for stabilizing blood pressure. Swedish massage therapy can be recommended as a treatment for improving blood pressure in hypertensive patients in hospital and community settings.

Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnant women is a health issue that can increase the risk of complications for both mother and fetus. One preventive measure is routine consumption of iron (Fe) tablets. However, adherence remains a challenge, contributing to continued cases of anemia. Research Objective: To determine the relationship between adherence to iron tablet consumption and the incidence of anemia among pregnant women at Grogol Community Health Center, Sukoharjo Regency. Research Methodology: This study used an observational analytic quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 104 pregnant women selected through total sampling. Adherence to iron tablet consumption was assessed using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS), while anemia was determined based on hemoglobin (Hb) levels. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Research Results: Of the 104 respondents, 64 (61.5%) were adherent to iron tablet consumption, while 40 (38.5%) were non-adherent. Anemia was found in 78 respondents (75.0%). Anemia occurred more frequently among pregnant women who were non-adherent than among those who were adherent. The Chi-square test showed a significant relationship between adherence to iron tablet consumption and anemia (p = 0.005). Conclusion: Adherence to iron tablet consumption is significantly associated with anemia among pregnant women at Grogol Community Health Center. These findings highlight the importance of improving education and monitoring of adherence to iron tablet consumption during pregnancy.
