Abstract

Background: Patients undergoing hemodialysis often experience physical and psychological changes that impact their quality of life. Self-compassion and depression levels are considered psychological factors associated with patients' quality of life. Objective: To analyze the relationship between self-compassion, depression levels, and the quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design involving 62 hemodialysis patients selected via total sampling. Data were collected using the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF). Bivariate analysis was conducted using the Spearman Rank test. Results: A relationship was found between self-compassion and quality of life (p=0.002), whereas no relationship was found between depression levels and quality of life (p=0.051). Conclusion: Self-compassion shows a significant relationship with the quality of life of patients undergoing hemodialysis, while depression levels do not show such a relationship
