Abstract

Selecting the construction method for rigid pavement is a decisive factor in achieving efficiency regarding time, cost, and quality in National Strategic Projects. This study aims to compare the efficiency of the automated Slipform Paver method versus the conventional Fixed Form method on the Solo–Yogyakarta Toll Road (Package 1.2). The research methodology involved field observations, equipment productivity analysis, and a comparison of Unit Work Prices (HSP). The results indicate that the Slipform Paver method achieves an actual production speed 3.21 times faster—taking 215 minutes per 100 linear meters—compared to the Fixed Form method, which requires 690 minutes. Regarding costs, the Slipform method reduces labor costs by up to 60% and minimizes concrete waste, despite the high initial investment cost for the equipment. Quality analysis shows that the International Roughness Index (IRI) values achieved via the Slipform method (2.5–3.0 m/km) are superior to those of the Fixed Form method (3.5–4.5 m/km). In conclusion, the Slipform Paver method is more effective and efficient for high-volume main-line toll road construction, whereas the Fixed Form method remains relevant for transition areas with complex geometry.
