Abstract

This study aimed to adapt and examine the psychometric properties of the Three-Factor Patience Questionnaire (3-FPQ) among student members of Nature Lovers organizations (Mapala) in Indonesia. A quantitative instrument-adaptation design was used, involving forward translation by two independent language institutions followed by researcher review to select the most contextually appropriate wording. Participants were 223 Mapala student members recruited through snowball sampling, and data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Of the 11 original items, ten were retained after one interpersonal-patience item was eliminated due to a low, negative outer loading. Then, the three-factor structure was confirmed as all dimensions fulfilled the requirements of outer loading, average variance extracted (AVE), and composite reliability. The Life Hardship Patience dimension had the strongest average contribution based on standardized loading values, consistent with the physical and situational demands that Mapala members face during outdoor and expedition activities. These results provide preliminary support for the validity and reliability of the 3-FPQ in Indonesian language as a measurement of patience among student nature-lover populations and are a starting point for further validation in larger Indonesian populations.
