Abstract

This article presents a practice based research in product design focusing on the exploration of modular form systems and construction logic through the design process of a constructive block toy. Creative practice is positioned as the primary mode of inquiry, where knowledge is generated through iterative making, form exploration, and material experimentation. A qualitative descriptive approach is employed within a practice-based research framework to examine design decisions emerging through iterative form exploration, prototyping, and material experimentation. Data are collected through visual analysis of existing products, literature review, exploratory sketching, physical prototyping, and reflective documentation. The resulting design artifact demonstrates how a limited set of modular elements can generate diverse spatial configurations through systematic construction rules. This research identifies how proportional variation, construction rules, and material-dependent connection tolerances interact to support formal variation while maintaining structural stability.
