Abstract

The ease of applying for loans has shifted away from the old pattern that required proof of steady income such as a payslip , towards an app- based pattern that reaches anyone , including teenagers and young adults without formal income , through services such as ShopeePinjam , ShopeePayLater , Kredivo , and Akulaku . This study aims to map the financial factors that influence people's decisions to use app- based loans through a structured literature review . The study uses a structured literature review approach with the PRISMA framework , examining ten Scopus and Sinta -indexed scientific manuscripts published between 2021 and 2026 , through four stages : introduction , screening , determining eligibility , and determining selected sources . The results of the review indicate that financial literacy is the most consistent factor influencing these decisions , followed by trust in service providers , household economic conditions , self -control , and risk perception and ease of use , the effects of which vary across studies . The discussion confirms that financial understanding alone is not always enough to prevent debt traps without strong self -control and value awareness , while trust has been shown to be more dominant than mere convenience in forming debt decisions . This study concludes that financial factors are layered and mutually influential , so strengthening financial literacy needs to be accompanied by self - control education and responsible lending policies , especially for the younger generation who are now active users of app - based lending services .
