Abstract

Mathematics anxiety is a factor related to students’ emotional aspects that can influence their ability to solve mathematical problems. This study aims to analyze the relationship between mathematics anxiety and students’ mathematical problem-solving ability through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). This study aims to analyze the relationship between mathematics anxiety and students’ mathematical problem-solving ability through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The method used is SLR by reviewing 13 relevant research articles that meet the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through documentation and analyzed using descriptive qualitative techniques. The results indicate that mathematics anxiety generally has a negative effect on students’ problem-solving ability, where higher anxiety tends to be associated with lower ability. However, the findings are not always consistent across studies, as some research shows no significant effect or different patterns depending on certain conditions. This indicates that the relationship between mathematics anxiety and problem-solving ability is not simple and is influenced by various factors such as self-efficacy, gender, learning approaches, and student characteristics. In conclusion, mathematics anxiety plays an important role in students’ problem-solving ability, but it is not the only determining factor. Therefore, educators need to consider students’ psychological conditions and apply appropriate learning strategies to reduce anxiety and improve problem-solving skills. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to mathematics education by providing insights for teachers in designing supportive learning environments that can reduce students’ mathematics anxiety and enhance their problem-solving abilities.
