Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy and the postpartum period remains a critical maternal health concern in Indonesia, contributing significantly to postpartum hemorrhage, infection, and prolonged maternal recovery. However, systematic screening and health education regarding postpartum anemia are often underutilized in primary care. This community service initiative aimed to evaluate hemoglobin (Hb) levels and enhance health literacy regarding anemia prevention among postpartum mothers. The program was conducted at Rumah Alodea, Tertek Village, Pare District, Kediri Regency, involving 15 postpartum mothers. Methodologies included health education sessions, interactive discussions, educational leaflets, and point-of-care Hb screening. The screening revealed that 80.0% of participants (n=12) suffered from postpartum anemia (Hb < 11 g/dL), while 20.0% (n=3) had normal Hb levels. Furthermore, participant knowledge improved substantially, with the proportion of mothers demonstrating good knowledge rising from 60.0% (n=9) pre-intervention to 100.0% (n=15) post-intervention. Early screening combined with targeted health education serves as an effective promotive strategy to improve maternal health outcomes during the postpartum period.
