Abstract

Although the integration of Sundanese local wisdom into learning has been examined in various studies, research that comprehensively covers the planning and implementation stages and its contribution to strengthening students’ social character in Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the integration of the three values of the Sundanese Trisilas philosophy, namely Silih Asah, Silih Asih, and Silih Asuh, into fifth-grade IPAS learning at SDN Hariang and their contribution to strengthening students’ social character. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design involving 26 students and one fifth-grade teacher selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and document review and were subsequently analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which comprises data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through technique and source triangulation. The results showed that the level of integration of the three Trisilas values into the teaching module reached 92%, whereas learning implementation was categorized as good, with a mean score of 3.26 on a four-point scale. Based on each dimension, Silih Asah obtained a mean score of 3.35, Silih Asih 3.20, and Silih Asuh 3.24. In addition, 88.5% of the students achieved the very good social character category, with a mean score of 87.5%. These findings indicate that the consistent integration of Sundanese local wisdom values from the planning stage through learning implementation contributes to strengthening elementary school students’ social character. This study enriches the literature on local culture-based character education and offers theoretical and practical guidance for teachers in designing contextual IPAS learning rooted in local wisdom.
