Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between parenting styles and student motivation in elementary schools. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, using structured interviews as the data collection technique. The study involved seven respondents, consisting of two parents, three students, and one class teacher. The findings indicate that parenting styles significantly influence children's learning motivation. Both democratic parenting, which provides freedom with supervision, and authoritarian parenting, which emphasizes control, can enhance students' motivation to learn, albeit through different approaches. Parents who are actively involved in supporting their children's learning, both emotionally and by managing the learning environment, play an important role in motivating their children to study. In addition to parenting styles, other factors such as the school environment, the quality of teachers, students' physical and mental health, and engaging teaching methods also impact students' motivation to learn. Gender differences in motivation were also observed, with female students generally exhibiting higher motivation to learn. These findings highlight the crucial role of parents in creating conditions that support the development of children's learning motivation. This study is expected to provide valuable insights for educators and parents in improving the quality of education in elementary schools.
