Abstract

Hatchery egg sanitation is a crucial step to prevent microbial contamination that could disrupt the hatching process. This study aims to examine the effect of Morinda citrifolia lignosae leaf extract as a natural disinfectant on the fertility, hatchability, hatch weight, and mortality of quail eggs (Coturnix coturnix japonica). The study employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments: P0 (control), P1 (30% extract), P2 (50% extract), and P3 (70% extract), each replicated four times with 10 eggs per replication. The leaf extract was processed using maceration with 96% ethanol and applied to the eggs via wiping before incubation. The results showed that the leaf extract treatments significantly affected fertility (P<0.05) but did not significantly influence hatchability, hatch weight, or mortality. The 50% concentration yielded the highest fertility (95%) and the lowest mortality (21.05%). This study highlights the potential of Morinda citrifolia lignosae leaf extract as an eco-friendly alternative disinfectant to improve the quality and productivity of quail eggs.
