Abstract

Hypertension remains one of the most significant global health issues, characterized by persistently elevated blood pressure and influenced by multiple determinants, including age, sex, body mass index (BMI), smoking habits, physical activity levels, and an individual’s knowledge about hypertension. This study aimed to examine the association of age, sex, body mass index, smoking status, physical activity, and hypertension-related knowledge with hypertension among adults in the Sukasada II Community Health Center area. A cross-sectional design was applied, and participants were selected using a purposive sampling method. Primary data were collected through anthropometric measurements, blood pressure assessment, and a standardized questionnaire, with statistical analysis performed using IBM SPSS version 25. The findings revealed significant associations between hypertension and age (p=0.026; OR=2.632), BMI (p=0.018; OR=2.864), low physical activity (p=0.037; OR=2.476), smoking (p=0.012; OR=6.162), and limited knowledge (p=0.006; OR=3.841). In conclusion, older age, obesity, smoking, low physical activity, and poor hypertension-related knowledge were significantly associated with hypertension, highlighting the need for preventive strategies targeting modifiable factors to reduce the incidence of hypertension in the community.
