Abstract

Background: Quality of life among older adults is influenced by physical, psychological, social, and environmental conditions, with family emotional support potentially playing an important role. Objective: To determine the association between family emotional support and quality of life among older adults in the working area of Lembursitu Public Health Center. Methods: This quantitative correlational study used a cross sectional design involving 75 older adults selected through purposive sampling. Family emotional support was assessed using the Family Support Scale, while quality of life was measured using the WHOQOL-BREF. Because the 2 × 3 contingency table contained zero and sparse cells, the association was analyzed using the Fisher Freeman Halton exact test, with Cramer's V as the effect-size measure. Results: Poor emotional support was reported by 49 respondents and good support by 26. Quality of life was poor in 45 respondents, moderate in 4, and good in 26. A statistically significant and strong association was observed (p < 0.001; Cramer's V = 1.00). Conclusions: Family emotional support was strongly associated with quality of life among older adults. However, the cross-sectional design, nonprobability sampling, and unavailable covariate data limit causal interpretation and generalizability.

Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis remains a public health problem, and incomplete treatment can adversely affect recovery and community tuberculosis control. Family support may influence medication-taking behavior during therapy and may be related to treatment adherence. Objective: To determine the association between family support and medication adherence among patients receiving tuberculosis treatment in the working area of Cidahu Health Center, Sukabumi Regency. Methods: This quantitative correlational study used a cross-sectional design involving 61 tuberculosis patients selected through purposive sampling. Family support and medication adherence were categorized into low, moderate, and high levels. Because the 3 × 3 contingency table contained sparse and zero cells, the association was analyzed using the Fisher Freeman Halton exact test, with Cramer’s V as the effect-size measure. Results: Family support was significantly associated with medication adherence (p < 0.001; Cramer’s V = 0.47). Among patients with low family support, 79.3% had low adherence, whereas 66.7% of those with high family support demonstrated high adherence. Conclusion: Family support was strongly associated with medication adherence in this sample. However, the cross-sectional design precludes causal inference, and residual confounding from unmeasured clinical, behavioral, and socioeconomic factors should be considered when interpreting the findings.

Abstract

Background: Family self-efficacy plays an essential role in determining the quality of home care provided to postoperative patients. Low self-efficacy may lead to inadequate care performance and hinder optimal recovery. Purpose: To determine the relationship between family self-efficacy and the success of home care among postoperative patients at RSUD Sekarwangi. Method: This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 30 family members who provided home care for postoperative patients were included as respondents. The General Self Efficacy Scale (GSES) was used to measure self-efficacy, while the Resident Assessment Instrument Home Care (RAI-HC) assessed home care success. Analysis technique: Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to examine the relationship between variables. Results: Most respondents demonstrated good self-efficacy (73.3%) and good home care success (73.3%). The Chi Square test showed a significant relationship between family self-efficacy and home care success (p = 0.000; p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between family self-efficacy and the success of home care among postoperative patients at RSUD Sekarwangi. Enhancing family education and strengthening confidence are recommended to improve home care quality and support optimal patient recovery.
