Abstract

The ecological crisis in the coastal areas of Demak and Jepara requires conservation approaches that integrate technical measures with religious values. This study examines the actualization of Qur’anic ecological ethics through eco-da‘wah in coastal conservation practices. Employing a qualitative approach with a comparative case-study design, data were collected through literature review, observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation and analyzed using thematic and qualitative content analysis. The findings demonstrate that the Qur’anic principles of khalīfah, amānah, mīzān, iṣlāḥ, and the prohibition of fasād fī al-arḍ provide a theological foundation for strengthening ecological awareness. Eco-da‘wah transforms these principles from normative religious discourse into participatory practices, including mangrove rehabilitation, coastal protection, and environmental management. This study proposes a transformational model of Qur’anic values–ecological interpretation–eco-da‘wah–ecological awareness and social mobilization–conservation praxis. The model demonstrates that coastal conservation can be conceptualized as an expression of ecological piety and religious responsibility toward environmental sustainability.
