Abstract

This study examines the development of a pesantren-based entrepreneurship model in Madura that integrates the halal value chain with local social capital to strengthen the economic empowerment of santri. The topic is important because Islamic boarding schools possess substantial human, social, and cultural resources, yet their economic empowerment programs often remain fragmented and insufficiently connected to halal production networks and local economic potential. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving pesantren leaders, santri, business managers, and local economic actors. Data were analyzed thematically through data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and triangulation. The findings indicate that the Pesantrenpreneur Madura model can be developed through three interconnected dimensions: halal-oriented entrepreneurship education, integration of santri businesses into the halal value chain, and mobilization of local social capital based on trust, kinship, community networks, and mutual cooperation. These dimensions strengthen santri’s entrepreneurial competencies while expanding market access, institutional collaboration, and economic sustainability. The study concludes that integrating the halal value chain and local social capital provides a contextual and sustainable model for transforming pesantren into centers of santripreneurship and community-based economic empowerment.
