Research on speech acts in literary works has predominantly focused on analyzing a single type of speech act, resulting in a limited understanding of the relationship among locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary speech acts in constructing communicative meaning. In addition, studies examining the factors underlying the use of speech acts in dialogues between characters remain relatively limited. This study aims to analyze the types of speech acts, namely locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary speech acts, and to identify the factors underlying the use of speech acts in Sendiri, a novel by Tere Liye. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a content analysis design. The research subject was the novel Sendiri by Tere Liye, which contained 180 utterances as the research data. The data were collected using the documentation method through reading and note-taking techniques, with a speech act classification guideline and a data analysis sheet as the research instruments. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of data analysis, which consisted of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that Sendiri contains three types of speech acts: locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary speech acts, with illocutionary speech acts being the most dominant. Therefore, the use of speech acts in the novel not only represents linguistic functions but also reflects the relationship among context, communicative purposes, and interactions between characters. The findings of this study contribute to the development of pragmatic studies and may serve as a reference for language learning and literary appreciation.
