Abstract

Financial crime poses a serious threat to economic stability and the integrity of Indonesia’s financial system, with adverse effects on public confidence and the credibility of financial institutions. Addressing such crimes requires a comprehensive approach that integrates legal frameworks, public policies, institutional capacity, and inter-agency cooperation. This article examines strategic measures for strengthening efforts to combat financial crime in Indonesia, including the enhancement of the legal framework, the development of human resource capacity, and improved coordination among law enforcement and financial intelligence institutions, particularly the Indonesian National Police, the Public Prosecution Service, and the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK). In addition, public education and awareness regarding financial crime, combined with the adoption of advanced technologies such as big data analytics and artificial intelligence, are essential for detecting, preventing, and responding to increasingly sophisticated financial crimes. The article also identifies several challenges that may hinder effective enforcement, including limited public understanding, inadequate inter-agency coordination, and budgetary constraints. Based on these challenges, it proposes strategic recommendations aimed at strengthening the effectiveness of financial crime prevention and enforcement. Through an integrated, collaborative, and sustainable strategy, Indonesia can establish a more secure financial environment, strengthen public trust, and contribute to greater economic stability.
