Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effects of the Work Environment and Leadership Style on Employee Work Discipline, with Work Motivation as a mediating variable, at the Langkat Regency Transportation Office. This study is motivated by the importance of a supportive work environment and effective leadership style in fostering employee work discipline, as well as the role of work motivation in strengthening these relationships to improve overall organizational performance. This study employed a quantitative approach involving 105 respondents who were employees of the Langkat Regency Transportation Office. Data were analyzed using SmartPLS version 4.1.1.4. The results indicate that the Work Environment and Leadership Style have positive and significant effects on Employee Work Discipline, with T-statistics of 4.210 > 1.96 and 5.831 > 1.96, respectively, and P-values of 0.000 < 0.05 for both relationships. Furthermore, Work Motivation significantly mediates the effects of the Work Environment and Leadership Style on Employee Work Discipline, with T-statistics of 3.470 > 1.96 and 3.609 > 1.96, and P-values of 0.002 < 0.05 and 0.008 < 0.05, respectively. These findings demonstrate that improvements in employee work discipline are influenced not only directly by the Work Environment and Leadership Style but also indirectly through increased Work Motivation as a mediating factor. Therefore, to achieve optimal employee discipline and performance, the organization should strengthen a positive work culture, implement inspirational leadership practices, and enhance employee work motivation through reward systems and competency development.
